iPhone LCD Screen Replacement Cost in Singapore & Common Issues

You have a faulty iPhone display and you are looking for an iPhone LCD screen replacement in Singapore. However, you are unsure what is the iPhone repair cost like and whether it is worth it to get a new screen replacement or a new phone.

As iPhone users, we understand that your iPhone is a precious investment. Searching for a reliable and affordable Singapore phone repair center can be daunting, especially with many different stores around the area!

In this article, we will explore in detail everything you need to know about replacing your iPhone screen, the common iPhone screen problems that users face (you are not alone!), and the iPhone repair prices in Singapore.

What Is An iPhone LCD Screen?

There are two parts to the iPhone’s front screen: the exterior glass and the LCD screen.

  1. The glass screen: a thin exterior layer that is inexpensive to replace.
  2. The LCD: known as Liquid Crystal Display. This component is in control of the phone’s display and touch functionality

5 Common iPhone LCD Problems

How do you know if your iPhone LCD screen is damaged? Here are some common issues users face:

Cracked Glass

You may have accidentally dropped, knocked, or even sat on it, and now your iPhone has these visible cracked lines like a spider web. While your phone may still function, these cracks will continue to grow. If you are not careful, you will get bits of dirt and dust through it and injure yourself from the tiny shards on your phone!

You can tell that the LCD may be damaged if the crack lines look complex. If you are lucky, you may just have an exterior glass crack. However, if you choose to leave these cracks unrepaired for too long, they may seep through and damage the LCD.

Vertical Lines on LCD Screen

Vertical lines on the LCD screen are a sign of hardware or software damage. They can appear in various colors whether it is black, blue, red, green, purple, pink, or grey.

Here are some of the causes of vertical lines on your iPhone screen:

  • Hardware Damage: Vertical lines can form after water damage or dropping the Apple iPhone from a significant height
  • Electro-Static Discharge: excessive static discharge produced from your iPhone can cause vertical lines to appear
  • Software Glitch: A glitch in your software can affect your iPhone display
  • LCD Disconnected: Your LCD cable has been disconnected from the magic board

A force restart may sometimes solve the iPhone issue revert to its original state. If this does not work, it is possibly a hardware problem that needs further diagnosis.

Discoloration on LCD Screen

Noticed a yellow stain or some discolored edges on the side of your phone screen and can’t seem to rub it off with a cloth? This could be a case of water damage.

Another possible reason for discoloration is a screen burn display which is common among OLED screens in newer phones. The image will persistently remain on the screen even after you have changed pages. This burn is permanent and impossible to fix.

Frozen/Unresponsive iPhone touch screen

Without a working touch screen, your iPhone is rendered useless. You may have tried:

  • Force restarting
  • Updating your phone to the latest version
  • Cleaning your screen
  • Disconnect any power cables
  • Factory resetting your iPhone…

…and none of it worked. The quickest solution is to take it to a professional repair center and find the root cause of the problem.

Black Screen

The black screen of death or the blue screen of death can happen for several reasons: a discharged battery or a buggy app. For a discharged battery, can try plugging into your power source to see if your Apple iPhone comes to life after an hour. For a buggy app, try uninstalling the app to see if it solves the issue.

DIY Steps To Fix iPhone Screen Repair

Do note that once you disassembled your iPhone, you may void your Singapore iPhone warranty. Ensure that your warranty has already expired or is no longer valid before attempting these steps.

Check that every function of your phone other than your LCD screen is working well such as your front and back camera, microphone, and proximity sensor (it will turn off your screen display when your phone is near your face during a phone call).

If you have concluded that your iPhone screen needs a replacement, follow these steps to fix your iPhone screen:

  1. Remove the screen by removing the two bottom screws using a small pentalobe (star-shaped) screwdriver. The screws are located next to the charging port.
  2. Tape the screen if your glass is severely damaged with broken shards to prevent more from falling out. It will also make the suction cup stick better on a smoother surface.
  3. Use a suction cup at the bottom half of the iPhone screen and gently pull the screen apart from the frame. Gently use a pry tool to slowly remove the screen around its edges.
  4. Once the screen is separated from the frame, lift the screen carefully towards the right to avoid damaging any cables.
  5. Remove the screws on the metal plate (known as the connector shield). There will be three ribbon connectors underneath. Remove these ribbons slowly using your fingers.
  6. Take your old LCD screen. Remove the top metal plate (where your front camera is) and the bottom home button so you can transfer it to your new LCD screen. (If your new screen replacement has both of these components, you can skip this step)
  7. Transfer both of these components to your new LCD screen. Reattach your three ribbon connectors and screw the connector shield in.
  8. Fit the new screen starting from the top two corners and make sure there are no gaps.

After you have determined that the new screen is functioning, check on the other components mentioned earlier such as the front and back camera to ensure that you have not disrupted any cables during the repair.

This may seem time-consuming and tedious, but if you get it right, the reward is satisfying.

However, doing it yourself may result in unintended damages if you are unfamiliar with the mechanics of an iPhone. Worst, you may not be able to access your phone after all the trouble.

iPhone Screen Protection Tips

Prevention is better than the cure, especially when it comes to your iPhone. These few tips will help your phone last longer:

  • Use a high-quality screen protector, preferably tempered glass. This will prevent your screen from getting scratched or cracked easily.
  • Get a sturdy iPhone protection case that protects all corners of your iPhone. A good case will absorb the fall impact and prevent damage to your phone.
  • Don’t put your phone directly under the sun for long periods of time, especially with the hot weather in Singapore! You can get a tan but your phone can’t. The heat will damage the hardware and cause the screen to warp.
  • While using waterproof pouches is great for swimming, trapped moisture may damage your iPhone in the long run.
  • Invest in a cleaning kit and keep your phone screen free from dust, smudges, and prints. You can take photos better and your phone will be more responsive.
  • Keep your screen brightness low when possible to avoid screen burn, reduce eye strain, and save your phone battery.
  • Don’t place heavy objects on your phone. Even though your screen may be durable, it will eventually crack under pressure.

FAQs

Can Apple Fix Broken LCD?

Yes, Apple can fix broken LCD screens on your iPhone for a fee. However, the cost is usually more expensive if you did not purchase the Apple Care+ package. Many Apple-certified iPhone repair Singapore centers will get it fixed at an affordable price.

Is It Worth Fixing A Broken iPhone Screen?

Yes, repairing a broken iPhone screen is usually the most cost-effective option. An affordable iPhone screen repair will not only extend the life of your phone for a few more months but also buys you time before investing in a newer model that is set to release soon.

Here’s a fun fact from a 2015 study: 41% of Singaporeans will not spend money to repair their damaged smartphone! We know how dangerous this can be. Don’t be a part of the statistic and get a free diagnosis with us.

How Long Does It Take To Fix an iPhone Screen?

If you take it to an Apple-certified iPhone repair services center (like us), it will take between 30 minutes to 1 hour for an iPhone screen repair depending on the severity of the issue. At the official Apple store, it may take 4-6 hours for them to repair depending on their availability and stock inventory.

Do I Have To Back-up My Data Before Taking My Phone To Repair?

Yes, you should back up your phone before sending it for repair to prevent any loss of your photos, videos, and contacts. In general, you need to back up your iPhone consistently (whether it’s to your iCloud or your computer) before any mishaps occur.

However, if you have not had the chance to do so, do not worry, we will perform these repairs face-to-face for full transparency and ensure your data is well-protected.

My Phone Is Dented, Can I Still Get My iPhone LCD Screen Replaced?

It may be more difficult to get it fixed as LCD screens are built for iPhone’s original flat surface. It will create a larger risk if it is not fitted properly on a dented phone such as the LCD popping out or exposure to water damage.

However, do not be discouraged, bring your iPhone to our center for a diagnosis and we will figure out a solution for you.

What If I Have An AppleCare Warranty?

The one-year standard Apple warranty has limitations and may not cover any damages caused by accidents, misuse, or wear and tear. If you have an Apple Care+ package, you will incur a fixed deductible at a cheaper cost. You can explore more on the difference between AppleCare+ and Apple Care in Singapore here.

Which is better, LCD or OLED iPhone Screen Replacement?

Apple started installing OLED screens for most of their latest models starting from the iPhone X. The OLED screen has better response time, offers deeper colors, and is lighter than the LCD.

However, the downside of an OLED screen is that it is less durable and is much more expensive to replace. The difference between OLED and LCD is negligible, but you will get more savings with an LCD Screen replacement.
