The iPhone 8 was recently launched this month as the latest in a line of top of the chart smartphones from Apple, one of the world’s leading smartphone makers. The phone has been designed remarkably well and looking at the features it has, it’s hard to believe that this is not the future of smartphones. The iPhone 8 comes in three shades; silver, gold, and space gray. The internal memory stands at 64 GB up to 256 GB. At just 148 grams and 5.45 mm in thickness, it’s one of the lightest and slimmest smartphones in the market. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch widescreen display with a 1334 x 750 resolution at 326 ppi. The phone is also splash, dust, and water resistant. It has a 12MP wide-angle camera that has a digital zoom feature as well as optical image stabilization and autofocus. The phone has a fingerprint sensor and a powerful inbuilt lithium-ion battery similar to the one on the iPhone 7. This is a great phone and you won’t find many in the market that can offer what this model does.
Common iPhone 8 issues
The iPhone 8 is new and exciting but some people have already started to report some issues. It’s almost inevitable though that all new releases of smartphones will have issues so there’s no need to be alarmed as.
In case your iPhone 8 has any problem, you have two options to fix this, you can either do it yourself or send it to an authorized repair service
Crackling Sound on the Earpiece
The crackling sound on the iPhone’s earpiece is one of the problems that have been reported by many users. Apple has confirmed the problem and the company is already working on a fix. The crackling of the earpiece is reported to affect the audio quality during phone calls and FaceID calls. A solution will probably come out soon though.
Screen Issues
It’s not easy to tell if the iPhone 8 will have screen issues or not because it’s relatively new. However, going by the history of iPhones released before the iPhone 8, it will not be a surprise if some users report problems with the 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors display.
Some of the screen issues that we are expecting with the iPhone 8 may include but not limited to the following:
- Cracked or broken screen – No doubt cracked, scratched, or broken screens are inevitable. The phone may fall off on to a hard surface and get damaged.
- Screen responds slowly to touch or does not respond at all – This issue was very common on the iPhone 7 and we feel that the iPhone 8 may also have it. It’s a situation where the screen hangs and fails to respond to touch completely or does it very slowly.
Possible Screen Solutions
We strongly recommend that any screen issues with your iPhone 8 are fixed either by an authorized third-party repair service provider or an Apple Service Center. Screen replacement at an Apple Service Center will cost about $219. The iPhone 8 screen is very delicate too and must be replaced with a lot of care.
Performance Issues
Despite a powerful A11 TSMC-fabbed 10nm FinFET six-core 64-bit ARM-compatible processor on the iPhone 8, in some cases, the phone may appear sluggish and freezes for a few seconds before executing a command. iPhones are not known for being slow and sluggish and to fix this issue, you can try to uninstall recently installed apps and see if this boosts performance. Try and reboot the device too.
Battery Issues
We already know that the iPhone 8 battery is relatively smaller than the iPhone 7 but the performance is still the same. We expect that some of the battery issues with the iPhone 7 may be replicated with the iPhone 8, like problems with quick drain, the phone not charging fast enough or not charging at all to overheating and bloating. In case you are experiencing any of these issues with the 1821 mAh iPhone 8 battery, try and change the charger. If there’s no change, send the phone to an Apple Service Center or so that the battery can be replaced. An Apple Service Center will charge $118 for battery replacement.
iPhone 8 Water Damage
The iPhone 8 is splash, water, and dust resistant. The phone can survive long spells under water and still come out unscathed. But it doesn’t hurt to take precautions. If your phone has been exposed to water, dry it off and bring it
iPhone 8 Camera Repair
Most camera issues with iPhones are often manufacturing defects. You may experience blurred images, no image at all and other defects. For customers who have AppleCare, you can get a replacement from any Apple Service Center. But sometimes the camera can work and then fail. This could be because the lens is damaged. Replacing the iPhone 8 camera is possible and it’s the only plausible fix for this issue.
The iPhone 8 Back Cover
The iPhone 8 will now have a glass back cover that will facilitate its wireless charging feature. Since this was not a feature in previous models, it’s hard to tell what issues it may have. Nonetheless, if indeed the cover needs to be replaced due to different defects, there’s always a solution.
Things to Note Before Sending the Phone for Repair
The first thing is to back up all the data. This is a common practice for all smartphones going for repair. Ensure that you have clearly indicated where the issue is too. Although not necessary, it always helps to research more about the problem.
Apple Service Centers in Singapore

Apple Service Center vs Authorized Third-Party Repair Services
You can use the existing Apple Service Centers for iPhone 8 repairs or choose a third-party repair service which will get you great benefits. To start with, you will pay relatively less for the repairs. Below is a table breaking down the cost of repairs at Apple Centers and you can be sure that it’s way lower in authorized third-party repair service stores. In addition to this, it takes too long for the repairs to be finished in Apple Care Centers and you will have to restore your phone to factory settings. This is too much trouble to go through. Besides, Apple Care Centers will not do motherboard repairs. Authorized third-party repair services are, therefore, recommended but this will void any warranty you have.
